The fate of an Igbo trader, Nonso Mabuchi, is currently hanging in the balance as doctors at the Isolo General Hospital are battling hard to save him from death following the injury inflicted on him by his friend.
Nonso was stabbed by his friend, Ezekiel Oseni, with a broken bottle during disagreement over sharing of money given to them by their friend. The incident, it was gathered, happened on 4 October, at their residence, 3, Oseni Street, Isolo, Lagos.
Ezekiel is currently cooling his heels in a police cell because of the incident. P.M.News gathered that the suspect and the victim were childhood friends living in the same area. It was learnt that one of their friends gave them N1,000 to share but this caused problem between them as they could not agree on the sharing formula.
An argument over the sharing was said to have led to fighting during which Ezekiel used a broken bottle to stab Nonso in the left ear. He was rushed to the general hospital, Isolo, where doctors are currently battling to save his life. The suspect was arrested and charged to the Isolo Magistrate's Court for inflicting injury on the victim.
The offence is punishable under Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety and the matter was adjourned till 5 November, for trial. The suspect was ordered to be remanded in prison custody because he could not meet the bail conditions.
