The Lagos State Government is to partially shut the Oshodi-bound section of the Apapa-Oshodi expressway for 45 days to pave way for the construction of the Okota-Itire overhead link bridge and road works.

At a joint news conference this morning between the Ministries of Works and Infrastructure and Transportation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ganiyu Johnson said the bridge project had got to a critical state which necessitated the partial closure of the road. He said the contractor handling the project asked for 45 days to allow for the construction of the bridge which is about 35 percent completed.
'In view of the strategic importance of this road to the state as well as the nation seaports/airports, all the necessary logistics have been put in place to allow for a zero level discomfort to motorists and the entire road users.
'One of such measures is that only light vehicles will be affected by the closure while heavy duty vehicles will be allowed passage at some sections of the road,' he stated.
Johnson added that the state government in collaboration with the police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other stakeholders had put in place effective machinery to ensure motorists experience little discomfort during the period of the partial closure. According to him, traffic would be diverted from the route to alternative ones specified by the state government.
On the Oshodi-bound section of the road, motorists are to drive through Adesina Street (by Ijesha bus stop), Agunlejika Street (Agunlejika Bus Stop) while vehicles going to Surulere could drive through Ijesha road-Lawanson/Itire road, Iyana Itire and link up to their various destinations. Motorists going to Surulere are advised to drive through Aguda road while those going to Ilasa/Mushin area could drive through Babalola/Pako Eleja/Itire road.
Also, Apapa-bound vehicles are advised to drive through Iyana-Isolo-LASPOTECH roundabout-Abimbola Way-Bello Street - Godwin Omonuwa-Ibe road-Cele/Okota Road.
Motorists from Oshodi have been advised to drive through Chessborough Way (Limean road) by Hassan bus stop - Abimbola Way - Bellow Street - Taiwo Street - Godwin Omonuwa-Ibe Road to Cele/Okota. Vehicles going to Apapa are advised to drive through Ago/Okota road through Apple Junction (Mile 2) to Amuwo Odofin, Festac-Satellite Town.
'Lagos state government, therefore, advises the public, particularly motorists to make use of the alternative routes provided,' he said.
