There was a major clash between men of the Nigeria Customs Service and smugglers in Morogbo area of Badagry yesterday.
Unconfirmed reports alleged that a Customs man was killed during the shoot-out. The Nigeria Customs Service mobilised men of the Nigeria Police Anti-Terror Squad and an armoured vehicle was stationed at Aradegun, a few kilometres from Morogbo, along Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The clashes paralysed commercial activities in Agbara as traders hurriedly closed their shops to avoid stray bullets while pedestrians around Morogbo fled to avoid being arrested and branded as smugglers. The incident, which started at about 2:30 p.m. lasted till the evening.
Our correspondent sighted officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ikeja Zone, in the area. Although normalcy has returned, the incident has doused the normal frenzy of activities associated with the busy Seme-Badagry-Lagos Expressway for fear of their goods being seized.
