A 24-year old private school teacher, Prince Eze Mathias, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly refusing to sleep with a housegirl he impregnated.
A 24-year old private school teacher, Prince Eze Mathias, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly refusing to sleep with a housegirl he impregnated.
Eze was alleged to have impregnated a housegirl, Margaret Imeh, at his residence, 18, Gbenle Street, Egbeda and abandoned her.
P.M.News gathered that Margaret was brought to Lagos by her uncle from Cross River State, but she later got pregnant for Eze.
Attempt by Eze to disown the pregnancy was frustrated by the girl's uncle and the police who forced him to pay the girl N10,000 monthly.
Trouble started when the girl's uncle explained to the suspect the need to have sex regularly with pregnant housegirl to ease her delivery. This advice, it was learnt, was bluntly rejected by Eze.
Irked by Eze's attitude, the girl's uncle reported the matter to the police who arrested and charged the suspect to the Ejigbo Magistrate's Court.
The police accused him of failing to provide for the girl the necessity of life without lawful excuse after impregnating her.
The offence, according to the police charge sheet, is punishable under Section 339 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety.
The matter has been adjourned till 10 November, 2008 for trial.
The magistrate also ordered that the accused should be remanded at the Kirikiri medium prison, Apapa, for failing to meet the conditions attached to his bail.
