The Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Mr. Ezebunwo Wike, is to spend the weekend in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following his inability to meet the bail conditions set by an Abuja High Court.
The Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Mr. Ezebunwo Wike, is to spend the weekend in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission following his inability to meet the bail conditions set by an Abuja High Court.
He was arraigned on Thursday for allegedly converting over N5 billion belonging to the state to personal use. However, he could not meet the bail conditions set by the trial judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko. The judge, while granting bail to Wike in the sum of N50 million, also asked him to produce two sureties that must be resident in the Federal Capital Territory.
But our correspondent gathered that Wike had not been able to meet the bail conditions as at the close of work on Friday and would remain in the commission's custody till Monday. The Head of Media and Publicity of the commission, Mr. Femi Babafemi, who confirmed the inability of the accused to meet the condition, said Wike was still with the commission.
