Despite a directive from their national headquarters in Abuja, to withdraw from the local government elections coming up on Saturday, in Lagos, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the state have decided to participate in the election.
Despite a directive from their national headquarters in Abuja, to withdraw from the local government elections coming up on Saturday, in Lagos, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the state have decided to participate in the election.
A list of candidates for the polls, published by the state Independent Electoral Commission, shows that all the PDP candidates are participating in the polls.
Their names were listed as participants in the elections with names of candidates of other political parties.
The parties scheduled to participate in the elections, apart form PDP, include the Action Congress (AC), Action Alliance (AA), Action Party of Nigeria (APN), Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Justice Party (JP), Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Nigerian Peoples Congress (NPC).
A coalition of opposition parties in the state also, yesterday, affirmed their intention to participate in the elections on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the state chairman of the Action Congress (AC), Otunba Henry Oladele Ajomale, has declared that his party would have a smooth victory at the Saturday polls.
Speaking with P.M.News, this morning, Ajomale said, 'AC is obviously the party to beat in Lagos, and I am assuring you that we shall win by moonslide.
'As you can see, all other parties are still confused about their stand, while we have long made up our mind to participate in the election.
'We started our state campaign last week from Badagry and we are rounding off today with a carnival at the Tafawa Balewa Square, by giving it a cultural colouration,' the former special duties commissioner stated.
He, however, enjoined all the party followers to troop out en mass on Saturday to vote for AC candidates in all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). Movement in Lagos will be restricted on election day between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
This was announced by the state Commissioner for Information, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele. He said the restriction is total to ensure security and allow the electorate to go out and vote.
