Airforce Sergeant Remanded


After a brawl with his landlady, a retired Nigeria Airforce sergeant, Emeka Johnson, has landed at the Kirikiri Medium Prisons, Apapa, Lagos, on remand.

After a brawl with his landlady, a retired Nigeria Airforce sergeant, Emeka Johnson, has landed at the Kirikiri Medium Prisons, Apapa, Lagos, on remand.

Police docked Johnson at an Ikeja Senior Magistrate's Court on a one-count charge of assault, leading to injury. P.M.News gathered that he allegedly assaulted his landlady, Ronke Olajide, and stabbed her with a broken bottle. The prosecutor, Inspector L. O. Mamah, informed the court that the complainant was on admission at the Orile Agege General Hospital when the matter was brought to court.

The alleged offence was committed on 26 September, at 35, Jimoh Yusuf Street, Aboru, near Iyana-Ipaja. The offence, the police prosecutor stated, was contrary to and punishable under Section 356 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The defendant not only denied the charge, but also claimed that the brawl with his landlady did not result in any injury that could make her to be hospitalized. Johnson said as a Christian and a retired sergeant of the Nigeria Air Force, he could not engage a woman in a fight.

The investigating police officer, woman constable Modupe Sunday, from Oke Odo Police Station, insisted that the complainant was on admission at the hospital. The presiding senior magistrate, Mr. A. A. Adefulire, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till 3 November, 2008, for mention.
