As the nation awaits the release of the list of new ministerial nominees, President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua has submitted a list of eleven ambassadorial nominees made up of five non-career ambassadorial nominees and six career ambassadors.
As the nation awaits the release of the list of new ministerial nominees, President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua has submitted a list of eleven ambassadorial nominees made up of five non-career ambassadorial nominees and six career ambassadors.
In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, David Mark, dated September 15, 2008, and which was read on the floor of the Senate, President Yar'Adua said the nomination of the would be ambassadors is in accordance with section 171 sub-section 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The list of the non-career ambassadorial nominees, included Ambassador Aminu Wali (Kano), who was the immediate past Nigeria's permanent representatives to the United Nations, Hon. Isaac Onuh, kogi; Ambassador Adamu Daura-Katsina, Chief Lawrence Nwuruku, Ebonyi and Mrs. Nkoyo Toyo an environmentalist from Cross River State.
The six lists of career ambassadors include State Chief of Protocol Amb. Ghali Umar from Kano, Mr. L. Bature-Katsina, Mr. L. O. Akindele-Oyo, Mr. H. Abdullahi- Niger, Mr. Samuel Folorunsho Aiyedona -Lagos and Mr. R. O. Eze, from Enugu State.
The last ambassadorial nominees of sixty that were screened by the Foreign Affairs Committee for the approval of the Senate took place in November, 2007.
Meanwhile, the PDP caucus of the Senate on Tuesday recorded a boost in membership following the administration of oath of office on Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo (PDP Kano North) as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Clerk of the Senator, Mr. Ben Efeture.
The swearing-in of Senator Hayatu Gwarzo followed his victory at the Court of Appeal in an election petition he filed against former Senator Aminu Garo of the ANPP.
Senator Gwarzo, who was sworn in by the Senate President, David Mark, is serving his third term as a Senator.
