Lagos AC Chides PDP For Withdrawing From Council Polls

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has welcomed the decision of the PDP not to contest the local council elections in Lagos.

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has welcomed the decision of the PDP not to contest the local council elections in Lagos.

The party sees this as the expression of the democratic rights of the party, especially as it confirms the known and verifiable fact that the PDP has no electoral value in Lagos and would rather chicken out in a face-saving effort to avoid imminent electoral routing.

In a release in Lagos, signed by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the AC, Joe Igbokwe, the party pooh-poohed the PDP for not being man enough to admit that it has no real political value in Lagos but rather engaged in a self-confusing altercation over the legality of a case it had lost in the nation's highest court. The party, while wishing the PDP well in its future endeavors reiterated that it is ready to enact its traditional great performance among the educated, progressive and enlightened people of Lagos in the forthcoming elections.

'We refuse to take PDP's infantile excuse of illegality of legally created council areas in Lagos; a matter that has been decided by the Supreme Court. If the question were about legality, we would rather defer to the Supreme Court than the cash-and-carry and highly erratic mindset of a group of amoral political profiteers and mercantilists who trade in denigrating the country's constitution for their narrow benefits. We are not fooled that the PDP knows about the imminent disaster facing it at the polls on Saturday, which was why it decided to beat a hasty retreat.

'We assure them that their withdrawal will not affect the polls nor the favorable results we expect for keeping faith with the political interests and governance needs of Nigeria's most important, most enlightened, most populous and most challenging state.'

The party added: 'It is queer that the PDP, which never for once bothered about the macabre parody its states have passed off as local council elections, should engage in such funny game over the transparent conduct of local council elections in Lagos. It is even more queer that a party that thrives in violently abusing and denigrating the country's statutes and constitution is pleading legality in its face-saving decision to chicken out of the Lagos council polls. It is ridiculous that the PDP, which has now been caught in an unending circle of dubiety that naively conceives a continuous journey to and fro the courts over a case that has been decided by the Supreme Court, is shamelessly parroting illegality as its excuse for quitting the contest of the Lagos Council polls. We fear that in the manner the PDP is employing legality, they are determined to substitute the nation's constitution with their own statute of illegalities.

'Lagos AC knows that as evil abhors light, the PDP abhors a free and fair electoral contest because that will preen them of the electoral mandate they have notoriously stolen from Nigerians. Lagos, being what it is, there certainly is no running away from a free and fair election and this accounts for why the PDP dreads elections in Lagos with heightened passion. They would rather like a situation where they capture states with pre-determined results written several days before election than stand before the people for votes.

'We assure the PDP that Lagos does not in anyway, tolerate their retrogressive brand of politics and they should admit this and quit believing that someday, a slight of hands will add Lagos to their vassal territory. We also urge our teeming followers and supporters to come out on Saturday and affirm their support for the AC in Lagos.'
