‘Nwosu'll Succeed On Eaglets' Job' - Hamilton

Paul Hamilton, Nigeria's former national coach, is confident that the former U-23 Eagles' assistant coach, Henry Nwosu, will succeed in his new job as chief coach of the Golden Eaglets.

Paul Hamilton, Nigeria's former national coach, is confident that the former U-23 Eagles' assistant coach, Henry Nwosu, will succeed in his new job as chief coach of the Golden Eaglets.

Nwosu was recently appointed as Eaglets' coach after the sack of the former handler of the team, Alphonsus Dike, in the wake of Nigeria's ouster from the Africa Junior Championship qualifying series, by Benin Republic.

The former Super Falcon's coach, in a chat with P.M.Sports, is happy that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appointed Nwosu as chief coach of the junior national team. He added that the ex-international, who assisted Samson Siasia in the silver medal winning outing at the recently concluded Olympic Games in Beijing, China, has what it takes to succeed in his new job.

He noted that Nwosu only needs the support of the nation's football authority and Nigerians. He said Nwosu, who has played the game at the highest level, will present a formidable team that will represent the country in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which Nigeria will host next year.

'Henry Nwosu has the capability to take the Golden Eaglets to the zenith. He understands the game. He did a good job with Samson Siasia in the U-23 Eagles. So, I am confident he will present a good team that Nigerians will be proud of in the next U-17 World Cup.'

Commenting on Alfonsus Dike's fate, Hamilton noted that Dike was unfortunate as the Eaglets' coach, especially with his failure to qualify Nigeria for the AJC in Algeria, next year.

'Alfonsus Dike is a good coach. He also understands the game, but he was sacked because he could not meet the aspirations of soccer-loving Nigerians. It's unfortunate that he has to be relieved of his job earlier than we expected.'
