The Chairman, Umunneochi Local Government, Abia State, Mr Oliver Uche has described as unthinkable, claims by Senator Uche Chukwumerije, representing Abia North Senatorial District, on the platform of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), of his (Uche's) purported plans to recall him from the Senate.

The council boss told Daily Sun that it was funny, to say that a local government chairman could recall a senator, representing a district made up of five local governments.
Absolving himself from the alleged plot, the chairman said he had no axe to grind with Chukwumerije as their relationship remained cordial.
'From my end, I don't have any controversy with Chukwumerije. I don't know what his problem is. You can meet him and ask him his problem,' the council boss said.
Uche said he was always shocked when people confronted him with claims purportedly by Chukwumerije that he was plotting against the senator.
'I am always surprised when people tell me that Chukwumerije said that you did this, you did the other one. I never told anybody that he (the senator) did this or that to me.
But if he has any problem or agitation against me, I will like people to find out from him,' he pleaded.
On the claim that the senator's grouse might not be unconnected with the recent loss of his (Chukwumerije's) ward to AC, the council boss said, 'It depends on the way you handle your area, like in my own ward, I know that as long as I am in politics, no other party can win my ward.'
He therefore directed the electorate to ask the senator why the PPA lost in his ward in the council polls.
He, however, restated that there was no problem between him and the senator after all. He stressed, 'Chukwumerije is a respectable man in Umunneochi, a senator of the Federal Republic. We belong to the same party, PPA. He is operating as a senator and I'm here as a local government chairman. I don't sleep with him or stay in his house, the only thing we have together is party meetings.'
