The Supreme Court, this morning, in Abuja, adjourned hearing till 23 October on the appeals made by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Action Congress and Muhammed Buhari of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), challenging the judgement of the Court of Appeal which upheld the election of Umaru Yar'Adua as president.
Like a hot knife cutting through butter, the apex court quickly disposed off all interlocutory motions to make way for the definite hearing of the substantive appeal instituted by the AC and ANPP presidential candidates.
The presiding judge, Justice Kutigi, granted all the requests made by the parties, especially requests bodering on extension, for the filing of briefs of argument and the replies of points of law. The Chief Justice explained that the purpose of today's sitting was to take all interlocutory applications and the motions so as to pave way for the hearing of the three appeals relating to the election petition pending before the court.
