Luck ran out on a 22-year-old bricklayer, Sunday Joseph, when he was caught stealing money in a parked car, along Charity Road, New Oko-Oba, Abule Egba.

Joseph, who lives at 10, Isakai Street, Pipeline, Abule-Egba, was seen by a female nurse (names withheld), in a private hospital, opening a parked car and removing money from a handbag.

The nurse raised an alarm which attracted passersby who pursued the thief and arrested him. He was beaten severely and was saved from being set ablaze by policemen from Oko-Oba.

Speaking with P.M.News, the nurse who craves anonymity, said she came outside the hospital and saw Joseph tiptoeing to the car, took the handbag, removed some money and was trying to run away when she shouted: ‘Thief, thief. Passersby later chased and arrested him', she added.

Another suspect, Sulaiman Ajani, 29, who lives at 27, Arowole Street, Abule-Egba, was also arrested for being in possession of a shoe belonging to a robbery victim.

Ajani, whose wife is about to put to bed, was arrested with the stolen shoes on his legs by neighbours who identified the stolen shoes. Joseph told the crowd after his arrest that he bought the shoes from a shoe seller and that he did not know that the shoes were stolen.

'I did not rob. I am not a robber. I bought the shoes from one man who used to sell his properties anytime he has problems. I did not know that the shoes were stolen,' he cried.
