Lagos-based musician, Tagbo Ukachukwu, popularly known as Mosquito, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly engaging in piracy and fraud.
Tagbo, an indigene of Oguta, Imo State, was alleged to have approached Prince Uche Enwerem and asked for his sponsorship of his new album entitled: ‘Ese Nla', meaning Big Blow. P.M.News gathered that Enwerem, who is a contractor, agreed and sponsored the production of the album.
It was learnt that trouble started when the accused allegedly took away thousands of compact disks worth millions of naira on the pretence that he wanted to sell them.
Investigations revealed that after hiding for eight months, Tagbo was arrested by the police and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate's Court. He was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety, and was remanded at the Kirikiri medium prison, Apapa, because he could not fulfil the bail conditions.
When P.M.News met him at the court premises, he admitted that Enwerem sponsored his album, but blamed the complainant for not being patient with him. He also denied that he pirated the album, claiming that the work belonged to him.
Enwerem told P.M.News that he regretted sponsoring the album. He said when the suspect approached him and sought his help, he did not hesitate in assisting him, but he later defrauded him. 'This is why it is difficult to get assistance from people because, at the end of the day, there would be stories to tell,' he said.
