P.M.News checks revealed that areas worst hit were wells located in Tijani Awolumate, Fatade, Ayinde, Sule Ewenla and Kudeyibu Streets. Similarly, wells located in Catholic Mission Road are no longer safe for domestic use.
Residents who spoke with P.M.News said they once complained to the Ikotun-Igando LCDA and a borehole was sunk at Kudeyibu area, but the single borehole could not serve residents in all the affected areas.
One of the landlords, Mr. Festus Olu Adekunle, said the spillage that resulted from the Ijegun pipeline fire disaster had rendered most wells in Ijegun unsuitable for domestic use.
'Our present fears arose when the landlords invited some experts who stated that the areas near the swamps of Ijegun, close to the Ijegun-Igando highway, would soon face similar pollution of wells. More than 10 streets are in this particular location,' he said.
Adekunle said the only borehole sunk by the LCDA could not serve residents satisfactorily. He wondered what would happen when residents in other parts of Ijegun suffer the same fate. He called on government to sink more boreholes in the area to alleviate the sufferings of the residents.
