Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, has held a stakeholders meeting on the collection of permanent voters card.

The stakeholders meeting, which was organised to sensitise residents on the need to collect their permanent voters card from the INEC office, was held at the LCDA secretariat and was attended by religious, traditional rulers, market men and women associations, political parties and INEC representatives.

According to the LCDA boss, Mr. Fashola Adeyemi Taofeek: 'This forum was organised to inform members of Orile-Agege community that there is a lot of voters card still in the INEC office yet to be collected. We are, therefore, using this medium to create awareness that those that are yet to collect theirs should do so in earnest.

'We have held a meeting with the INEC representative in the LCDA and have decided that we will carry out a distribution exercise in all the wards that make up the LCDA because that is the closest to the people,' he said. Taofeek disclosed that religious leaders, traditioners rulers and market associations would be mobilised to sensitise the people on the need to collect their permanent voters card from the INEC office.

He explained that the meeting was also held to sensitise youths who recently turned 18 years to go to INEC for registration because they are now eligible to vote. 'During the last registration exercise, some of our youths were below 18 years while some people were not around due to one thing or the other. This is another opportunity for them to register with the INEC,' he stated.

Gabriel Taire, INEC Assistant Electoral Officer for the LCDA said residents that have not collected their permanent voters card can still go to their point of registration for collection. 'The permanent voters card is what will be used for future elections while the temporary voters card can still be used now. 'Those that are just registering for the voters card cannot vote because their names are not in the voters register,' he said.
