Against the backdrop of ferocious militant attacks on major oil facilities in Rivers State for the past few days in an on going ‘oil war',the new Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Paul Dike, stormed Port Harcourt this morning to assess the operational competence of the Joint Task Force, JTF, and other military formations.
Airmashall Dike, who declined to comment on the latest destruction of major oil installations, however, gave a vote of confidence on the JTF but said there were areas that needed to be iimproved upon.
Governor Chibuike Amaechi told the Chief of Defence Staff that he is satisfied with the professional competence of the JTF.
He said that but for their ability to secure the state, the criminals who masqurade as freedom fighters would have overrun it.
He charged Dike to use his office to improve on what is on ground and carve his name in gold as one who flushed out bandits in the region and restored peace.
Meanwhile, the state government has not reacted to the annoucement by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mike Okiro, through the force O/C legal at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, that the wanted militia leader, Mr. Ateke Tom, is no more on the wanted list of the police.
