A Lagos landlord, Adolphus Udemezue, wept like baby at the premises of an Ejigbo Magistrate's court yesterday, while narrating his ordeal in the hands of his tenant.
A Lagos landlord, Adolphus Udemezue, wept like baby at the premises of an Ejigbo Magistrate's court yesterday, while narrating his ordeal in the hands of his tenant.
The landlord revealed how one of his tenants, John Imo, his son, Emmanuel, and their pastor forced him to pack out of his own house.
Udemezue told Magistrate's Court 1, presided over by Mrs. A.O. Ajibade, that John Imo and others allegedly assaulted him in his house at 8, Olugbenga Lamina Street, Agoga Egbe.
According to the landlord, trouble started when he wanted to make repairs on the soak away and toilets. He had allegedly informed Imo that he wanted to effect the repairs to enable other tenants use their toilets.
Before then, Udemezue said he had provided an alternative pending when he would finish the repairs. He said he was surprised that John refused and he had to wait for two years before he got clearance from to effect the repairs.
As a result of the disagreement, the plaintiff alleged that his life has been under constant threat from Imo and his family, including Imo's pastor.
He said when he reported the assault on him at Ikotun Police Station, Imo was invited by the police but he refused to honour it.
Moreover, the policeman, PC Okorie Imeh, who was sent to invite Imo to the station was allegedly beaten by Imo, his wife and children.
They have been charged separately with beating up the police officer.
Udemezue added that though the matter is now in court, he heard that they had promised to deal with him, so he had to pack out of the house for his safety.
He added that since he packed out of his house fire had gutted some parts of the building.
