The police, in Oyo State, have arrested a 45-year-old doctor identified as Mr. Taiwo Ogunbowale, for the alleged murder of a lady, Ronke Sunday, 22, through illegal abortion.
The police, in Oyo State, have arrested a 45-year-old doctor identified as Mr. Taiwo Ogunbowale, for the alleged murder of a lady, Ronke Sunday, 22, through illegal abortion.
Ogunbowale, popularly called ‘Doctor' by residents in the area, admitted to the heinous crime in his unregistered maternity home, Tire Ni Oluwa Maternity Home,' located at Gbelekale area of Ibadan.
In his confession to detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Ogunbowale, a product of Modakeke High School, where he passed out in 1983, said the victim lost her life through bleeding after she was given Oxfocin injection to terminate the five-month-old pregnancy.
He disclosed that the lady was rushed to the Adeoyo State Hospital, where she was rejected, and taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where she gave up the ghost. 'I promise not to indulge in the act again if I am freed from this case,' he told his interrogators. He is currently being detained at the State CID, Iyaganku, Ibadan, to face prosecution.
