In its bid to fight to a standstill the problem of ghost workers and ensure that only legitimate employees of the state government are on its pay-roll, the Delta State government has approved the implementation of an automated payroll system with biometric capabilities for the state.

Addressing newsmen at the weekend, Chairman of the steering committee and the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Oma Djeba, said the automated payroll system, when operational, would assist the state in planning and development.

Members of the committee, which is to supervise the implementation of the project are the states Commissioners for Economic Development, Finance, Justice/Attorney General, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries, ministries of Finance and Economic Planning, with the later as the secretary of the committee.

On the other hand, the state government in order to ensure enough and affordable food for its citizens, has introduced a programme it called youth empowerment through agriculture and farmers' support programme (YETA-FSP) .
Briefing newsmen on the programme, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Oma Djeba said, 'In pursuance of this overall goal of providing food , four subcommittees were further mandated with various responsibilities of identification and training , facilitation and assistance, market development, linkages and sensitization and other strategies . According to him , under identification, youths would be selected from the 25 councils of the state for training in various fields of agriculture .

Meanwhile, the state government in furtherance of its three point development agenda, has approved the rehabilitation of the about 40 schools that were destroyed during the crisis that engulfed the region.
Addressing newsmen after its executive council meeting chaired by the state acting governor, Professor Amos Utuama, weekend, Djeba who was flanked by his counterparts in the works and economic planning ministry, said that government, in line with its human capital development agenda, was poised to ensuring that the various schools were rebuilt without any delays.The government also approved the rehabilitation of several roads in various local government councils of the state.
