At least 30 policemen of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) were, today, promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in Oyo State.
Among them were the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bisi Okuwobi, O/C A.V.T.S, State CID, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Mr. Odunayo Laisi and Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Musiu Oseni, who were personally decorated by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Azeez Bashiru.
Most of those decorated today were enlisted in the Nigeria Police in the year 2002 and have served in various capacities of the Nigeria Police. Speaking during the decoration ceremony, Mr. Bashiru said that their promotion was as a result of the officers' steadfastness and commitment to work.
He urged them to put in more effort while policing the country. Urging them to live up to the higher responsibilities they will now shoulder, Bashiru charged them to reciprocate the good gesture by upholding the principle of the police force and ensure that they contribute to the improvement of the force. His words: 'I congratulate you and I wish you success in all ramifications. But I want to advise you as a father that you shouldn't let the command down.'
Commenting on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Okuwobi, a graduate of English from Onabanjo Olabisi University (OOU), noted that the promotion would encourage them to give more to the police force, pointing out that the promotion was a motivation to aspire to perform better than before. During the occasion, 23 armed robbery suspects were paraded at the police headquarters.
