Fashola Unhappy With Civil Servants

In recent times, officers in the Lagos State civil service have been exhibiting nonchalant attitudes in the area of presentation of reports, minutes, letters, submissions and notes to their superiors.

In recent times, officers in the Lagos State civil service have been exhibiting nonchalant attitudes in the area of presentation of reports, minutes, letters, submissions and notes to their superiors.

The Public Service Office (PSO), recently raised an alarm over this burning issue and chided civil servants over too much relaxation and deviation from civil service norms.

It is now common that minutes and reports of meetings are presented unsigned and when signed, the name and designation of the writer would not be included, which means such documents would therefore not have a known writer except where the signature is familiar.

To make matters worse, some civil servants extend this nonchalant attitude to the documents forwarded to Governor Babatunde Fashola, making him to be infuriated. According to a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, PSO, Mrs. A.A. Olusola, on behalf of the Head of Service (HOS), 'this unwholesome trend had been extended to documents forwarded to His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.'

As a no-nonsense governor, Fashola issued an executive order aimed at curbing this attitude among civil servants. 'It is hereby ordered that henceforth, all reports, minutes and notes on issues affecting the state government must be property signed and include the name, ministry, designation, department of such officer and the effective date of such submission.

'Under no circumstance should any report with an unidentified writer be accepted or acted upon. It is important for everyone serving in the state's public service to ensure proper and adequate record keeping of all official transactions in their care. It is mandatory that this executive order is strictly adhered to,' Fashola warned, while Olusola echoed the warning, saying, 'I am to stress that any officer who fails to adhere strictly to this order will be sanctioned.'
