Speaking with Sunday Sun on telephone, the Muslim cleric warned that the trend was dangerous and that 'all people of conscience and people of faith must rise to fight this evil.'
He spoke against the backdrop of last weekend's well-publicized second anniversary of the gay movement in Lagos.
The two-day event held at the gay church, House of Rainbow Metropolitan Community Church, along Yakoyo Road in the Ojodu area of Lagos, attracted participants from across West Africa, Europe and America.
The church was founded by one Roland Macaulay, a lawyer and theologian, on September 2, 2006 and is an offshoot of the Universal Fellowship of the Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC), established in the 1960s for homosexuals around the world.
According to Ahmad, Islam, like other monotheistic religions, rejects homosexuality or same-sex relationship.
'Islam sees it as unnatural. It defiles human nature and is a great danger to the human race. Islam rejects it out-rightly.
'In the scriptures, that is, the Bible, Koran and Torah, we read about cities that were destroyed because of homosexuality. We therefore urge that Nigeria being a deeply religious country must resist the pressure from misguided elements in the Western world to impose this unnatural phenomenon on us.
'We appeal to the legislatures in the country never to allow it. It is already an offence in our statute books and everything must be done to enforce it,' he said.
On the speculation that homosexuality was thriving in the Northern part of the country, which has a predominantly Muslim population, Ahmad reasoned that the fact that there was armed robbery everywhere does not make the act legal.
'So the fact that homosexuality thrives in some parts of the country does not make it legal. That is why there are laws to punish such deviants,' he said.
