You canít talk about fair polls, AC tells PDP

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has told the Peoples Democratic Party that it lacks the moral to criticise the conduct of local councils primaries by the AC in the state.

The Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress has told the Peoples Democratic Party that it lacks the moral to criticise the conduct of local councils primaries by the AC in the state.

Reacting to media reports in which the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Prof. Rufai Alkali made uncomplimentary remarks about the council primaries, Lagos AC Publicity Secretary, Chief Joe Igbokwe pointedly brushed off Alkaliís criticism stressing that PDP was not fit to condemn the conduct of AC primaries even as he dismissed the party as ďa group of people that have destroyed the sacred canons of democracy through the most bestial acts that have placed the country and its politics in great danger.Ē

In a release made available to Sunday Sun, Igbokwe, stated that the PDP, both at the national and peripheral levels, remained a threat and danger to democracy and the progress of the country because ďit had greatly defaced democracy and what it stands for,Ē adding that ďif any party should stand on the moral ground of pontificating on democracy, it is not the PDP that has led the country to its worst ever decay through negative political conducts.Ē

Continuing, AC said: ďWe wonder where the PDP did its primaries as to judge which party conducts a free and fair conduct or not. Our records show that as at the time of this release, the PDP has not conducted any primary for the council elections in Lagos. Nigerians know what PDP primaries, at every level, stands for. It is none other than a mock show, a howling parody and a crude joke, which had gotten worse as the party perfects acts of sabotaging democracy in Nigeria.

We wonder where Alkali got his orientation of what a free and fair primary should be. It certainly cannot be from the PDP, which had shown a historical disdain for the rights of its members and the Nigerian citizens to govern them. We wonder where a party that has made Nigeria a laughing stock to even Mugabeís Zimbabwe sourced the impetus to lecture about free and fair electoral conduct, when it had shown beyond every flick of doubt that it is antithetical to the conduct of a free and fair electoral process.

The party maintained that PDP is synonymous with electoral robbery and audacious manipulation of votes shamelessly manisfested in 2007 shambolic exercise.

This is a great piece of history, which is dear to our hearts as people and very much appreciated.

Many thanks to the people who worked hard in the past and those who are still making efforts to keep the institution.

The labour is obviouly worth it. We are proud of you all.

A lot still to be done, with the motivation of the champions of this course, others will follow as well to maintain the institution

May God continue to keep the edifice for development of future generations to the glory of God and the benefits of our fatherland.
