Respite came the way of motorists and commuters at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, recently, when operatives of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade, went into action and swooped on illegal street traders, while shanties and kiosks erected along the road were demolished.

P.M.News learnt that the exercise was carried out following series of complaints from residents of the area over arbitrary blocking of the main road by traders.

During the operation, which lasted over four hours, Lagos Bulletin gathered that five of the illegal traders were arrested and charged to court in Alausa, Ikeja.

Mrs. Kemi Oludare, a teacher and resident of the area, commended KAI for liberating road users from the excesses of street traders.

According to her, the exercise would enhance free flow of traffic in the area, as it is a known fact that illegal traders were the main cause of traffic jam as major parts of the road are always taken over by the traders and this affects free flow of traffic.

Mr. Jamil Yussuf, a commercial motorcyclist, also commended the brigade and urged it to make the raid a regular exercise.

However, the outfit's boss, Captain Danjuma Meigeri (retd), appealed to illegal traders in the state to stop flouting government's order on street trading as he stated that KAI will not fold its arms and watch their illegal activities.
