Police Corporal Kills Sergeant In Error

Police, in the Ogoja Division of the Nigeria Police, are trying to unravel the accidental killing of a police sergeant, Thankgod James, by his colleague, Kasimu Hussein.

Police, in the Ogoja Division of the Nigeria Police, are trying to unravel the accidental killing of a police sergeant, Thankgod James, by his colleague, Kasimu Hussein.

The incident, an eye witness told P. M. News, took place at about 9 p.m. while they were signing for rifles for night duty at the Ogoja Divisional Police Station.

Thankgod, it was learnt, was the armourer who handed out rifles to the policemen on night duty.

According to a police source, 'Thankgod was handing out the rifles to those on night duty. He had given out guns to all the four persons on patrol and Kasimu was also handed his.

'Kasimu was trying to ascertain the state of his rifle which is the usual thing. We do not know how he loaded the gun before doing that. What we heard later were guns shots that hit Thankgod at the back of the head.'

The killer cop, who is now on the run, has kept his phone open to answer calls.

He has been claiming that he did not do it intentionally.

One of the policemen who signed for a rifle that night from Thankgod, said while he picked his own gun and checked that it was okay, Kasimu was having problems with his own.

'The way he was struggling with the gun, I told Thankgod to help him with it, but he said he wanted to complete filling the records before doing that. It turned out to be too late,' the cop said.

The body of the father of three is now at the Ogoja General Hospital mortuary awaiting transfer to his home town in Rivers State.

When P. M .News visited his residence, along Obudu Road, Ogoja, his wife, Doris Thankgod, was still too dazed to believe that the father of her three children was dead.
