Task Force To Demolish Shanties At Ijora

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit) task force, are set to demolish shanties and illegal structures in Ijora.

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit) task force, are set to demolish shanties and illegal structures in Ijora.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the task force, Mr. Bayo Sulaimon, a Superintendent of Police, in an exclusive chat with P.M.News, at his Ikeja office.

He revealed that his men had concluded an inspection of the area for demolition under the Ijora flyover, describing the situation there as an eyesore.

Sulaimon said illegal squatters have encroached under the flyover, erecting different kind of structures, including brick residential houses and makeshift shanties which doubled as business and residential abode.

'We have succeeded in demolishing illegal structures in several parts of Lagos to pave way for free flow of traffic, drainage and rid the state of dirts, among others.

'We are very much aware of the risky situation at Ijora. A letter had been written to the state government and we have been directed to clear the shanties under the bridge before they could repair the flyover which had been partially burnt.

'Very soon, it may be today or tomorrow, we are going to clear all the shanties and illegal structures under the Ijora flyover, to give room for repairs by the federal government,' Sulaimon stated.
