Executive Secretary of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Mrs. Nimot Gbadamosi, has appealed to residents to desist from indiscriminate felling of trees meant for environmental beautification.
She warned that indiscriminate cutting of trees would henceforth attract sanctions from the local government. The Onigbongbo LCDA boss said apart from the ecological benefits of a cleaner and safer environment, trees also prevent erosion and provide aesthetics for the environment.
Mrs. Gbadamosi reiterated the significance of trees in the environment, describing it as a completion of the ecosystem. She enjoined individuals, community and corporate organisations to partner with the LCDA by embracing the culture of tree planting to save the next generation.
The Onigbongbo LCDA boss said the council would sustain tree planting in the area, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure that indiscriminate felling of tress without replacement became a thing of the past.
'I implore everybody in the LCDA to endeavour to plant a tree in their domain in order to lift the council from neglect and degradation to an aesthetically appealing and environmental friendly one, ' she stated.
