A tanker, carrying 33,000 litres of diesel, fell on the road at about 3.30 a.m. today.

The incident happened at the First Gate Bus Stop area of Sagamu-Ikorodu Road, as it was climbing the hill. Long vehicles like trailers and trucks always find it difficult to climb the hill which has almost become a death trap.

Immediately the accident happened, policemen and other law enforcement agents cordoned off the area to prevent people from scooping fuel from the fallen tanker. As at the time of writing this report, LASTMA officials, with the assistance of policemen and civil defence men, were seen making efforts to tow the vehicle away from the scene of the accident.

According to the head of the LASTMA officials at the scene, Mrs. L.O Giwa, she got information about the accident in the early hours of today. She said the area was cordoned off to prevent fire disaster and that fire fighters have also been deployed there.

The vehicle was coming from Mosinmi on its way to Ikorodu when the incident happened. The driver of the tanker, who was injured, has been taken to the hospital.
