A herbalist in Abuja, Alhaji Ali Kwara, on Thursday made a bold stride in the war against armed robbery in the country by arresting two security agents who allegedly always provide cover for men of the underworld.
Kwara, also a Special Adviser to the FCT Minister, Dr Aliyu Moddibo, on Security Matters, led a team of mobile policemen to arrest a police constable and an army private (names withheld) and they are being held at the FCT Police Command.
The security men were arrested while allegedly providing escort for a gang of armed robbers to their hide-out in Abuja.
Kwara told our correspondent that the soldier and the police constable were in their service uniforms while escorting the robbers in separate vehicles.
The robbers confessed to have stolen the car, a Honda Accord 2.4 Vtec, from the house of one Dr. Kirfi in Abuja, adding that their escorts had assured them of adequate protection before they embarked on the trip to Abuja.
Our correspondent gathered that when the police arrested the gang, the soldier intervened in an attempt to secure their release but this was futile as he too was arrested.
Similarly, the police constable was arrested while escorting two armed robbers in a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Model believed to have been stolen from Aba in Abia State.
"The policeman was found sitting in the vehicle in his uniform armed with a gun pretending to be security aide. After interrogation, the robbers confessed to have stolen the vehicle from the owner at gunpoint in Aba, Abia State. The policeman said he was serving with the Abia State Police Command," Kwara said.
The policeman reportedly confessed that the stolen vehicle belongs to the former chairman of Aba South Local Government Area, Chief Patrick Onwuka
