One of the suspects arrested in connection with the attack on an old generation bank at Sandgrouse, Lagos Island, recently, Johnson Omoniyi Bamidele, has narrated how the gang invaded the bank.
Bamidele was a senior driver working with Spintex Group of Companies at Odogunyan, Ikorodu, until he was arrested by the police, last month.
The suspect confessed to the police that he gave the gang information that the company was going to withdraw a large amount of money from the bank.
'I usually informed my group about movements of money, and provided them with the necessary logistics to attack our targets. I was always in the know when huge amounts of money were being moved from the bank to the company and vice versa,' he stated in his statement to the police.
The father of three also confessed that before the attack on the Sandgrouse-based bank, he participated in another robbery at the African Refectory Company, Ogijo, Ogun State, where members of the gang made away with more than N800,000.
'My share of the loot was N40,000,' he revealed.
But, contrary to police claim that the robbers failed to gain entry into the bank, during their last operation before they were arrested, Bamidele said the gang stole a huge amount from the bank, and that he was given N250,000 as his own share of the booty.
Born 42 years ago at Eri-Ekiti in Aramoko Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Bamidele was arrested alongside 12 other suspects, last month, by the police.
The suspects, who are still being detained, include Abiodun Azeez Ogunbiyi, 32, leader of the gang; Yussuf Olagunju, 32; Johnson Serif Taiwo; Taofik Oyebanji and Maureen Onabanjo, the female armourer of the gang.
