A 25-year-old trader, Stanley Mbablis, who resides at 72, Oshodi Road, Afariogun, Oshodi, Lagos, has been arrested by the police, after robbing a branch of a first generation bank at Ladipo, Mushin.
A 25-year-old trader, Stanley Mbablis, who resides at 72, Oshodi Road, Afariogun, Oshodi, Lagos, has been arrested by the police, after robbing a branch of a first generation bank at Ladipo, Mushin.
Luck ran out on the suspect when the police got an anonymous distress call that robbers were robbing the bank at about 5.30 a.m., and the police responded swiftly, and Stanley was caught, while other members of his gang were believed to have fled.
P.M. News gathered that the suspect works in the building that accommodates the bank and got access into the bank by breaking the ceiling from the outside with screw drivers, iron cutters and spanners.
When asked about the whereabouts of other members of the gang, he said he normally operates alone. But it is believed that his statement was not true.
Police recalled that on 3 October, last year, the same bank was robbed and there were speculations that it might be the same gang that was responsible for the operation then. However, the police could not confirm the speculation.
A Toshiba laptop, valued at about N300,000, and N230,000 cash belonging to the bank, was found on the suspect, who is currently awaiting arraignment. He is being detained at the Olosan Police Division, where he is undergoing investigation.
