A 23-year-old painter, Afeez Odulami, has been electrocuted by a live wire, while trying to paint the top of a one-story building, at a new housing estate close to Ebenezer Bus Stop in Ijaiye, Lagos.

P.M.News investigations revealed that Afeez was contracted by a friend, Ramon Babatunde, who is also a painter, to assist him with the job.

On getting to the estate, it was gathered, Ramon started work on one side of the house while the deceased worked on the other side, using a ladder to get to the top of the building where he intended to paint.

The deceased was said to have lost his balance and in a bid to steady himself, held a live wire and was electrocuted instantly. One of his friends, who craved anonymity, told P.M.News that he died before he could be taken to the hospital. The deceased, it was learnt, celebrated his 23rd birthday, two Sundays ago.

'He took some of his friends out to a joint where we enjoyed ourselves,' a source told P.M.News. Describing the deceased, who is also fondly called 'Biggie' by his neigbours and friends, one of his close friends described him as an easy going, friendly young man who went about his business and never quarrelled with anyone.

When P.M.News visited his 4, Ifelodun Street, residence, Off Agbado Road, where he resides with his parents, the atmosphere was gloomy.

The deceased's father, Mr. Odulami, said he had left everything to God, stressing that if it was God's will, nothing could have been done to stop it. A candle light procession was held, last night, for the deceased whose corpse is still deposited at the Ikeja General Hospital mortuary.
