Tragedy occurred, yesterday afternoon, opposite New Gate Micro Finance Bank Nigeria Limited along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, close to Tincan Island Port, when two trailers conveying containers collided.
One of the trailers with registration number XL805AAA caused the crash which resulted in the death of the driver of the other truck. The driver who caused the accident, was dodging the potholes on the road, when the container fell and landed on the other driver of a truck with registration number XD 452 BDG.
The driver, whose identity could not be ascertained at press time, was crushed instantly to death, while the conductor sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to an undisclosed hospital.
It took several hours to pull out the body of the deceased driver from the crushed trailer. When the body was eventually removed from the wreckage, he was so mangled that he could no longer be recognised. The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Onlookers and sympathisers condemned the bad state of the roads in the metropolis and blamed frequent accidents on the neglect of the roads by the government.
