ARMED robbery gangs in Enugu have launched reprisal attacks on soldiers and army officers, including a general, whose car was snatched at gunpoint, over the death of some of their members at the hands of military men.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the robbers stormed some officers' houses at Government Reserved Area (GRA) on Abakaliki Road in Enugu on Monday night, tracing an officer who allegedly shot one of the gang members dead during a recent foiled robbery attempt.
The officer was lucky as he was said to have travelled to Abuja, leaving his colleagues in the house.
The robbers, who did not spare anybody in the house, were said to have beaten a friend of the officer to coma.
Another set of armed robbers attacked a General in broad daylight and snatched his car.
The attacked officer was said to be recuperating at an undisclosed hospital while it was gathered that the authorities of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army were worried about the reprisal attacks on their men.
Efforts to speak with the public relations officer of the division were not successful as he could not be reached.
Unconfirmed sources told the Nigerian Tribune that about three soldiers were killed by robbers while travelling on Onitsha-Enugu express road recently.
