Barely 24 hours to the swearing in ceremony of Senator Liyel Imoke as Governor of Cross River State, there is heavy security presence in Calabar, the state capital.

Soldiers have mounted road blocks on the outskirts of Calabar where they are checking vehicles coming in and out of the state.

There are about 40 checkpoints along a half kilometre stretch of the highway where fully armed soldiers used tyres and blocks to form obstacles on the road, in order to slow down vehicles for thorough checking.

Each of the road blocks have long queues of vehicles waiting to be cleared as the vehicles are allowed to pass one at a time.

Around the Governor's Office, there is heavy presence of mobile and conventional policemen who screen visitors and those without tangible reasons are turned back.

The swearing in, which was to take place today, was delayed till tomorrow, to allow PDP chieftains, dignitaries and party supporters coming from other parts of the country and local governments in the state, to felicitate with the re-elected governor.
