Demoted Police Chiefs Get New Posts

Some of the recently demoted police officers, holding key positions, have been redeployed.

Some of the recently demoted police officers, holding key positions, have been redeployed.

P.M.News gathered this morning, that some of the affected officers have been given new posts and transferred out of the present states they are serving.

Sources told P.M.News this morning, that one of the officers, Leye Oyemade, who is currently in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, has been transferred to Delta State as Area Commander.

However, the Command he is to head could not be ascertained at press time. Leye was demoted from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) along with others. Also affected is Olayinka Balogun, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Fraud Unit (SFU). He was also demoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police.

P.M.News confirmed from reliable police sources that Balogun has been redeployed to head the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos.

Although it could not be ascertained from official quarters at press time, when the redeployment will take effect, sources said the redeployed chiefs will soon move to their new stations.

Attempts to speak with the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Mr. Akpoebi Egbuson, proved futile at press time as he failed to pick his calls. A top police source who confirmed the development said Akpoebi had gone to Bayelsa State.

He added that following the demotion of the officers, they could no longer man the posts they were in charge of prior to their demotion, since only officers that had attained certain ranks could occupy such positions.

On Tuesday, 5 August, 2008, 140 officers, including the former Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, were demoted. The Police Service Commission, which announced their demotion, said the officers were improperly promoted since due process was not followed.
