The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) office located at 3, Arifanla Road, Akute, a suburb of Ogun State, has been shut, following the murder of the branch's Marketing Manager, Mr. A.B. Ademolu.

The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) office located at 3, Arifanla Road, Akute, a suburb of Ogun State, has been shut, following the murder of the branch's Marketing Manager, Mr. A.B. Ademolu.

An an angry soccer mob beat him to death on Tuesday afternoon, after PHCN officials disconnected electricity supply to the area while the soccer fans were watching the Nigeria/Belgium Olympic semi-final match.

The soccer fans had pounced on Ademolu while he was trying to calm them down when they invaded the PHCN office. When P.M.News visited the PHCN office yesterday, it was under lock and key, as no staff was found within the vicinity.

The action, P.M.News gathered, was taken to honour the slain manager. P.M.News also gathered that it was the relatives of the deceased who forced the PHCN officials to close shop following the murder of their bread winner.

The relatives of the deceased were said to have invaded the PHCN office yesterday morning, and forced the staff to close work for the day.

'They actually came in a bus from Alagbado to investigate how their bread winner actually died. But on getting to the PHCN office, they discovered that business was still going on as usual, and that prompted their anger. 'They insisted that the office must be shut immediately to avoid trouble,' a source said.

Some relatives of the deceased were quoted as saying; 'so, you people can still be working. Is it a fowl that died or a goat? So, he doesn't deserve any honour from you people…?'

P.M.News gathered that four suspects, a woman and three boys, have been arrested and detained at the Eleweran Police Command, Abeokuta, in connection with the murder.

Sympathisers around the PHCN office told P.M.News that the deceased, a member of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), was a gentle and easy-going fellow who could not hurt a fly.

'Surprisingly, the woman in police net that led the mob to the PHCN office is also a member of the Celestial Church,' another source said.

'Ademolu met his untimely death when he was hit with a stick on the head by someone in the mob, while he was trying to calm them down during their invasion of the PHCN office. He died on the sport,' a witness told P.M.News, yesterday.
