President Umaru Yar'Adua, yesterday, appointed Air Marshall Paul Dike as the Chief of Defence Staff, in a major shake-up of the command structure of the Nigeria Armed Forces.
President Umaru Yar'Adua, yesterday, appointed Air Marshall Paul Dike as the Chief of Defence Staff, in a major shake-up of the command structure of the Nigeria Armed Forces.
Yar'Adua also approved the appointments of Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin(Air Force), Maj.-Gen. A. Bello Dambazau (Army), and Rear Admiral Isaiah Ibrahim(Navy), as new service chiefs.
Dike takes over from Gen. Andrew Azazi, while Ibrahim replaces Vice-Admiral G.T.A. Adekeye, who is retiring from service. Dambazau takes over from Lt.-Gen. Luka Yusuf who is also retiring.
The Special Adviser to the President on Communications, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, told journalists in Abuja that their appointments were with immediate effect. The presidential aide also announced the postponement of the defence retreat of the Armed Forces, scheduled to commence today, in Kaduna.
