A five-year-old girl has narrated how she was defiled by her father's 48-year-old friend, who is also a shop attendant, Mr. Udoh Paul.
Mr. Paul was arraigned before the court for raping on 17 August, 2008, at Block 3, shop 17, Mammy Market, Ikeja Military Cantonment.
The girl's mother, Mrs. Veronica, a petty trader told the court she was in her shop on the fateful day, when Paul came to the shop to play with her children as he had always done, and later took her with him to his shop.
'He came to our shop as usual on that day to play with the children and later went with her. I didn't know any thing until a neighbour raised an alarm,' said the bitter mother.
When narrating her ordeal, the girl told the court that the defendant showed her pornographic pictures and asked her to imitate them, before defiling her. She said: 'When I got to his shop, he showed me pictures of a man and woman where a man slept on the woman and asked me to lie down to do like them. He then put ‘his thing' in ‘my thing' and later put it in my mouth. That was when the woman in the next shop started shouting,' she said.
The prosecutor in the case, SUPOL Alade, told the court that Mr. Udoh committed an offence punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, cap 617 vol II laws of Lagos State.
Mr. Udoh, who had earlier confessed to journalists that he was guilty of the charge said that he was under a spell, and that he was going to tell the court the truth so that the court would free him. He was later told by his lawyer, Mr. Ebonu Osita, not to plead guilty, which he did.
The Magistrate presiding over the case, Mrs. A. O. Komolafe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with a surety who must be a blood relative, who must be gainfully employed and resident of Lagos which must be verified by the court. Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned till 5 September, 2008.
