The Lagos State Government has introduced a new taxi scheme to ease the problem of traffic congestion and road accidents in the state.
The scheme is in conjunction with the private sector. Commissioner for Transportation, Prof. Bamidele Badejo, said this morning, that the first organisation to be licensed is the Corporate Cab Services Ltd., which has fulfilled government's condition to operate taxi and car hire services in the Lagos metropolis.
Badejo said the company paid N5 million as licensing fees and would pay N1.5m annually as license renewal fee. The MD/CEO of the transport company, Mr. Victor Adeyemi, during the pre-launch media briefing at Alausa this morning, told newsmen that customers who make use of the corps cars (taxi) will be treated as kings.
He said this is in line with the vision and policies of the Lagos State Government in transforming the public transport sector into service industry befitting the mega city status of Lagos State.
'Corporate Car Services Ltd is a logistic company set up to provide our customers safe, reliable, comfortable and friendly travel experiences in our taxis unlike what is obtained today where commuters are stranded by the roadside looking and waiting for taxis that would go their way.
'We take our passengers wherever they want to go in comfort, safety and style, using brand new air conditioner cars,' he said.
Adeyemi further stated that the taxi services of the company would attract charges according to hired time and that the cabs are installed with taxi metres, receipt printers, tracking and navigational aid for routine and effective management. He added that the vehicles are fitted with e-payment terminals to ensure that the customers get good value for their money.
'The POS terminal in our taxis for e-payment will allow our passengers to pay for services using their debit or credit card as well as make payment for bills, purchase airtime for their phones, lottery ticket, etc., on an on-line real time basis. Corporate Car Services Ltd is poised to provide transport service in an exceptional manner that treats passengers as kings.'
The managing director of the company assured that the charges are reasonable and commensurate with the quality of services that are delivered. He stated that the vehicles would be driven by well-trained uniformed operators who are cautious and well mannered.
Adeyemi praised the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, Commissioner for Transport and other officials for their support towards the realisation of the company's vision. Meanwhile, the official launch of the corp cabs is scheduled for next week.
