The Yobe State government has approved N14,800 as new minimum wage for teachers in the state.
Governor Mamman Ali said on Monday when the Minister of State for Education, Hajiya Aishatu Dukku, paid him a courtesy call in Damaturu, that the state had peculiar educational problems which required a special approach.
This, he added, also informed the introduction of boarding primary schools in the state. Ali said the establishment of boarding schools would reduce the apathy of parents to providing education for their wards. The governor also assured indigenes graduating from the National Teachers Institute's NCE programme of employment.
Earlier, Dukku said she was in the state to start a training programme for 145,000 primary school teachers taking place across the country. She said the selection of Yobe for the exercise was informed by the commitment of the state government to improving the standard of education.
