For having the effrontery to serve herself a plate of rice from her madam's pot, an eight-year-old housemaid in Port Harcourt, Blessing Isaac, almost had her right forefinger chopped off. Little Blessing's madam, identified as Mrs Juliet Umoh, was said to have ignored the girl's complaint that she was hungry.

For having the effrontery to serve herself a plate of rice from her madam's pot, an eight-year-old housemaid in Port Harcourt, Blessing Isaac, almost had her right forefinger chopped off.
Little Blessing's madam, identified as Mrs Juliet Umoh, was said to have ignored the girl's complaint that she was hungry.
However when the girl sensed that getting food was like 'Waiting for Godot,' she decided to help herself to a plate of rice that a neighbour said 'was without meat or fish.'
The audacity of the girl, who lost her mother a few years ago, infuriated Mrs Umoh and her bus driver husband, and she decided to teach the maid a lesson.
Apparently in a cruel move to slow down the girl's seemingly fast fingers, the woman allegedly placed her tiny right forefinger on a hard object and inflicted a deep cut that almost cut the finger in two.
It was gathered that despite the girl's agonizing cry, the couple refused to take her to the hospital for medical treatment.
When Sunday Sun confronted the woman at their 64 Afikpo Street residence in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, she denied that the act was deliberate.
Although she said the girl was taken to the clinic for treatment, the wound was still bleeding three days after the unkind cut was inflicted.
Some of the couple's neighbour's told Sunday Sun that this was not the first time the girl had been maltreated by the woman.
Only recently, she beat Blessing black and blue,' one of them alleged.
The neighbours, who were not sure that the matter had been reported to the police, preferred that Blessing be taken back to her people before she loses her life.
