THERE was outrage in Kano, Wednesday over the mysterious death of an 18-year-old girl found slaughtered in the family rest-room in the municipality. The 18 year old bride who was identified by a family member as Malama Hadiza Haliru of Mai'adua quarters in Kano City was discovered by family members in a pool of blood with a knife and kettle of water found behind her lifeless body that Wednesday night.
According to an uncle to the deceased, Malam Umar, 'the girl was found in the pool of her own blood in the toilet situated 50 metres away from the main building'. Umar revealed that there was no sign to suggest any bitter struggle between her and suspected assailants, adding that the body of the late Hadiza was intact at the time of discovery by family members. Umar stressed that none of the family members could say the exact time the incident happened, maintaining that the death remain a mystery to them. 'None of our family members could exactly tell you the cause of her death, she could not have committed suicide. Hadiza's death remain strange and mysterious to us', Umar explains.
Sunday Vanguard learnt that the deceased was before her death formally engaged to one Ibrahim of Dorayi Karshen-Waya quarters in Kano, and that family of both parties had since slated the weeding ceremony at end of Muslims Ramadan. Unconfirmed sources also had it that the late Hadiza was forced into the marriage engagement by her family to keep the family bride as they considered her too late for a lady of her age to remain a spinster.
When Sunday Vanguard contacted the police in Kano, the public relations officer, Baba Muhammed, while confirming the incident, revealed that late Hadiza's mother has been quizzed in respect of the death. Baba Muhammad stated that detectives were working on suicide options, adding that other possibilities are also been explored to unravel the circumstances that led to the' mysterious slaughter'. The police spokesman appealed to the general public to assist it with vital information that would lead to the root of the matter.
