Namadi Inaugurates Local Govt Reform Committee

Kaduna State Governor, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has set up a committee to look into the problems militating against the effective running of local government administration in the state.

Kaduna State Governor, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has set up a committee to look into the problems militating against the effective running of local government administration in the state.

The need to set up the committee, P.M.News gathered, was basically due to deficiency in administration and financial mismanagement observed by the governor in the 23 local government councils in the state.

While inaugurating the committee on Tuesday, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Governor Namadi tasked the members to put heads together and fashion out the best ways to improve administrative performance with emphasis on revenue generation , provision of social amenities in rural areas and capacity building of local government personnel.

He stated that “Local government councils in the state must be seen to be working and providing the people with dividends of democracy. These are the reasons people elect council chairmen into offices.”

Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Habibu Balarabe, told P.M.News that the reform in the state was long overdue, considering the decay in the local government administration in the state. Balarabe, who is also the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government Affairs in the state, asserted that “the fact that local government councils across the country get millions of naira monthly and people cannot point out what they use the money for, is quite unfortunate.”

He therefore said the committee would do every thing to ensure that the trend changes in the state. According to Balarabe, the committee will submit its report to the state government for full implementation by December, 2009.
