Prince Adeferanmi Sijuwade, one of the sons of the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Highness, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, has regretted dating popular actress, Toyin Adegbola, a.k.a. Asewo To Re Mecca.
Consequently, he said he doesn't want her in his life again.Speaking with P.M.News, the 40-year-old prince said the relationship, which had become an embarrassment to the royal family, started in 2005 when they met on his way to the United States.
According to him, Toyin had walked up to him after his presence was announced in the aircraft. They exchanged telephone numbers, and after he returned to Nigeria, a relationship started.
Prince Sijuwade told P.M.News that after he lost his wife and a daughter to a plane crash in 1991, he has been encouraged to remarry and take care of his surviving son.
So, in January, 2007, he had a low-key traditional wedding with Toyin Adegbola, a single mother of two, in Ilesa and Ogbagi-Akoko, Ondo State.
Last year, Prince Sijuwade said he took the actress to the palace to see the royal father.
According to him, though she was welcomed by Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the royal father asked the prince to see him the next day for an important discussion.
'When I got back the next day, he bluntly told me to stay away from the actress,' the younger Sijuwade stated.
However, he said because he had gone far with her, having sent her two kids abroad, and the love he had for her, he walked out on his father.
Trouble, however, broke out between them when she introduced him to a business which he considered demeaning to his status as a son of aq prominent king in Yorubaland.
He told P.M.News that after he turned down Toyin's business proposal, he has been facing all kinds of threats.
He added that his amorous relationship with the popular actress has caused the royal family embarrassment, and his father has ostracised him.
Prince Sijuade said he is using this opportunity to apologise to His Royal Highness, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, for the embarrassment the relationship caused him and the entire royal family.
When P.M.News called Toyin Adegbola on her MTN line at about 6.20 p.m. yesterday, to state her own side of the story, she denied knowing the prince, talk less of dating him.
'Who is that prince. I don't know any prince in Ife,' she said, adding that 'go and do your findings very well. I don't know any prince from the Sijuade family.'
Her denial prompted Prince Sijuade to bring dozens of the photographs he and Toyin took together when the going was good.
