At the National Aquatic Centre, 23 year-old Nigerian Yei Yah Yellow won the heat 6 of the men‘s 50metres freestyle event.
Yellow is participating at the big stage for the very first time.
He surprisingly won ahead of swimmers from Holland, Switzerland, Jordan, Sri Lanka and Mozambique.
Yellow won the race in 24 secs to move on in the competition. Holland‘s Rodiun Davelaar was second with his 24.21 effort while Jordan‘s Anas Mamadeh came third at a time of 24.40 seconds.
In weightlifting, Nigeria's Felix Ekpo came 15th in the final classification of the men's 77kg event. Korea‘s Jashyaouk Sa won the gold, Hongli Li of China won the silver while the bronze went to Armenia‘s Geyong Davtyan.
Only two Nigerian lifters are left in the race and they will be on duty on Friday and Saturday
