There seems to be more trouble for the corpse of a man who was stabbed to death by his wife in Lagos on Wednesday as two hospitals have rejected it.
Hence, the investigating police officer in charge of the case is in a dilemma on what to do with the corpse.
The IPO, our correspondent learnt, first carried the corpse to Isolo General Hospital, where it was rejected on the grounds that only the Ikeja General Hospital had the right to carry out an autopsy on it.
The situation became more worrisome for the IPO because a recently enacted law in the state demands that there must be a coroner's inquest into all 'unusual deaths.'
At the Ikeja General Hospital, the corpse was also rejected despite pleas by the IPO that he had nowhere to keep it.
It was learnt that the management of the mortuary at the hospital told the policeman that the corpse had to be rejected because there were 47 other corpses billed for test on Thursday.
At that point, the IPO had to return the corpse to his Divisional Police Officer in Mushin for the next option. At the time of this report, the police were considering keeping the corpse at a private mortuary.
The victim, Hakeem Anifowose, 38, an indigene of Osun State, was a resident of 28, Coker Street, Mushin, where the killing took place.
His wife, Remilekun, 36, told the police that her husband was a chronic hemp smoker and a wife batterer.
Trouble started for the couple on Wednesday night when Hakeem allegedly returned home and his wife accused him of having gone to smoke hemp again.
A physical brawl resulted and during the struggle, Remilekun allegedly seized a knife, which she claimed her husband held, and stabbed the man in the neck with it.
The father of three died before he could be rushed to a hospital. His Imo State-born wife has been arrested and is still with the police.
Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Thursday.
