Embattled former Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, is still languishing in the cell of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) 24 hours after he was granted bail.
George, former chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), and four others, including NPA Managing Director, Architect Aminu Dabo, Captain O. Abidoye, Alhaji Abdullahi Tafida and Alhaji Zanna Maidaribe, are facing prosecution for N84 billion NPA contracts scam.
As at press time, all the five accused persons were yet to perfect their bail granted them on Tuesday by Justice Olubunmi Oyewole.
The present travail of the PDP chieftain and former NPA bigwigs, Daily Sun gathered was due to the delay in verification of claim of taxes up-to-date by the sureties presented.
Counsel to the defendants were sighted in court on Wednesday making frantic efforts at perfecting the bail.
When our reporter sought the view of one of the counsel, the counsel (name withheld) described the situation as 'tough.' 'My brother the situation is very tough, we are still on it. This tax situation is giving us a lot of headache.
'In fact, one of the officials told us that it may take next week Tuesday before the report of their verification will be ready,' he said
