Justice Adamu Bello of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, this morning, granted bail to the former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna, and his co-accused, Muhammed Inuah, in the sum of N100 million and one surety each in like sum.
The sureties are to be residents of Abuja and must be responsible tax payers with developed landed property worth up to N100 million in Abuja.
The accused persons were also directed to deposit their travel documents including international passports with the court.
The court refused to share the sentiment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which opposed the bail application.
Lawyer to the EFCC, Barrister J.L. Longs, had informed the court that granting the accused bail will allow them to tamper with ongoing investigation of the case. EFCC accused them of stealing N93 million. Hearing in the matter was adjourned till 6 November, 2008.
